Biography
Megan Hassler is currently studying in her senior year at University of Colorado Denver. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, with an expected graduation date of May 2023. Pulling from these backgrounds her work focuses primarily on responding to the contemporary world. Her summative thesis for photography, Headspaces is a unique photographic exploration in the duality of life when battling with a mood disorder. Her wide range of photographic curriculum has given her a breadth of knowledge and expertise in both digital and darkroom photographic modalities. Additionally, she has professional experience as a freelance photographer and as a photographic assistant on larger photographic jobs. Her work has been shown as part of the Guilty! CU Student Show at Emmanuel Art Gallery in Denver, Colorado and the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy.
It is important to Megan that her work is responding to contemporary issues and topics, while staying true to her personal experiences. Megan works primarily in digital photography but likes to use a variety of photographic processes in her practice. Additionally, she works with sculptural materials for individual pieces or larger installations in conjunction with her photography. Megan’s work is primarily concerned with exploring the visualization of mental health and the human condition.
